About Us – The Story Behind Las Piedras Accessible Holidays
We’re Adrian and Hannah, and our journey to creating Las Piedras Accessible Holidays began in 2002, when we moved from Wales to the beautiful Axarquía region of southern Spain with a clear mission: to provide genuinely accessible, enjoyable holidays for physically disabled people, their friends, and families.
With a background in travel and tourism, including three years organising and leading tours for physically disabled travellers around the world, we saw the same issues crop up time and again: either the hotel was beautiful but lacked proper accessible facilities, or it was accessible but felt more clinical than comfortable. We believed – and still believe – that everyone deserves a proper holiday, and that accessibility should never come at the cost of atmosphere, charm, or enjoyment.
That belief is what sparked the creation of Las Piedras.
After falling in love with the Axarquía – thanks to its short flights from the UK, sunny year-round climate, stunning countryside, quiet beaches, dramatic mountain landscapes, and proximity to cultural gems like Málaga, Granada, and Córdoba – we found our dream property. The mountain views still stop us in our tracks.
With hard work, a lot of learning, and support from family, friends, and our incredible guests, Las Piedras Rural Hotel opened its doors in 2003. Since then, it’s grown into a popular and trusted choice for travellers seeking a relaxed, fully accessible place to stay – without the feel of a care facility. We’ve kept it small and friendly, and pride ourselves on creating a welcoming, homely atmosphere with the help of our fantastic team.
Today, guests can stay on a per-room basis (B&B or Half Board) with the option of accessible transfers and excursions, or they can hire the entire property for exclusive use, with flexible options for self-catering or full support. We operate our own wheelchair-accessible vehicles for transfers and guided days out.
In 2008, we expanded with El Pleamar Accessible Apartments, set right on the beach in Torrox Costa, in the exclusive Pueblo Amanecer, Laguna Beach complex. These two beachside apartments offer the same high standard of accessibility and comfort – and are so popular they book up well in advance. Accessible airport transfers are available here too.
More than two decades in, we still feel incredibly privileged to live and work in such a breathtaking region, and even more so to welcome guests from around the world who come to relax, explore, and experience the real Andalucía.
